How high does your hba1c need to be before it becomes necessary to medicate. last time it was 7.1 but i think it's better from diet & exercise.

Varies: The need to start a medication should be discussed with your doctor. Typically, i recommend starting a medication with the hgba1c is above 7% to help reduce the risk of microvascular diabetic complications.

DM criteria: 7.1 is high. Usually 4.5to 6% is ok in normal people. 5.6% is the cut off point. You should have fasting , random, and 2hour post prandial blood sugar at 2 different occasions before committing to medications. Of course the diet comes first. You have weight loss surgery. What type?Did you have diabetes before surgery. Mostly the diabetes is corrected after surgery. Good luck.
