Infection: Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, mrsa, is a bacteria that is contagious since it is spread by direct contact with a person that has it, or by contact with an inanimate object (a "fomite") that has mrsa(eg. Soiled clothing that has come in direct contact with a person with mrsa). You are right that, in many cases, hand washing and covering a cough are ways to minimize infection.
