Ortho extractiions: Any extractions for orthodontic treatment needs to be decided on a case by case treatment plan. This is dependent on the age of the patient, the amount of room needed vs the amount of room available, the health of the teeth, periodontal health, relation of the upper, and lower jaws. This decision will be based on your orthodontic examination and evaluation.

30%: Better not to extract. That said, about 30% of orthodontic patients do require extractions. Removing 3rd molars does not make room to straighten front teeth, but may need to be removed for other reasons. Please see a qualified orthodontic specialist to evaluate your individual treatment needs and treatment plan options. Remember that ortho rx is a service, not a product. Everyone's different.

1st Premolars: If extractions are needed to relieve anterior crowding the choice would be first premolars over third molars. Because of how the jaw grows, extracting third molars will not help create room for crowded anterior teeth. Depending on type of crowding sometimes second premolars might be extracted or even a single lower front tooth.

All Depends: Extracting 3rd molars is not a traditional treatment modality to alleviate server anterior dental crowding. The more common extraction treatment is premolar extraction. However, w/o comprehensive orthodontic records, it is impossible to make that determination.
