Opportunist germ: The yeast that causes thrush are around us everywhere. It is on surfaces and easily transferred to the mouth of a baby on fingers or contaminated objects. The babies constant feeding provides the moist sugary nutrients that the yeast thrive on. So food + available yeast means thrush can occur often. Some infants seem to have it constantly while others do not.
