Virtual consult: A photo may be uploaded during an inbox virtual consultation. If there is persistent white coating on the tongue and inner mouth surfaces, your baby may have thrush. If the thrush is part of a pattern of infections, associated with persistent diaper dermatitis or poor growth, please see your Pediatrician immediately. Further testing may be considered.

Appearance: A simple white coating of the tongue may be just retained milk solids. If the gums/roof of mouth & inner cheeks/lips have a coating that appears like milk or cottage cheese it is likely thrush. If you scrape it with an ear bud it may trigger mild bleeding. I would call the office of the kids doc & see if they want you to come in or just treat over the phone.
