Probably...: ...If the cause of your esophageal stenosis (narrowing) is non- intermittent (versus conditions like esophageal spasms or schatzki's ring). The barium study, if positive, will localize the problem ; better characterize how much of the esophagus may be involved, as well as what method of dilation may be best. X-rays may be less helpful with conditions like low grade eosinophilic esophagitis, .

Yes: A narrowing of the esophagus should be easily seen on a barium swallow.
