Do not lift + carry: You sound well trained by the child. I have two kids and have been down this road. Check everything first. Fever, cough, tummy, diaper, sheets, etc. Once you have determined all is well, put him in his crib and close the door. Yes he will scream and cry but eventually he will go to sleep.
