If it helps at all: This pain usually is very acute following surgery but resolves in about 48 hours. Take the oxycodone and anti-inflammatory (aleve) and hang in there. Usually in about 48 hours this pain is manageable with anti inflammatory alone. (your mileage may vary). Talk with your doctor who did the surgery. Good luck.

See your surgeon: While some postoperative discomfort is to be expected, if you are compliant with your surgeon's instructions and your pain is unrelieved with prescribed medication, you want to followup with your surgeon. Uncontrolled pain might indicate a potential complication, you are on it too much or you need different medication. Good luck!

Ask your surgeon: It is normal to have pain the first day following bunion surgery. Try to avoid excessive medication. Rest the foot. Elevate the foot, ice the foot. Take it easy. Taking oral anti-inflammatory medication with the pain medication will usually be helpful. Ask you surgeon what he or she feels is right for you.

DRESSING: The post-op dressing or cast may be too tight.
