Mania = happiness?: Not really, even during mild (hypo)mania, one' s judgment is off and while it may feel good it usually leads to actions or verbalizations one later regrets. Full blown mania can lead to disastrous misjudgments.

It is usually accompanied by grandiosity, pressured speech, inflated self-esteem, flight of ideas, hypertalkativeness, reduced need for sleep, racing thoughts & over-indulgence in risky behaviors.

Mania: Mania certainly can feel happy.....even euphoric and incredibly energizing. Those with bipolar disorder often go off their meds because they feel so great. Why take meds when you feel like you're on top of the universe? The problem is, mania can lead to some very bad, impulsive decisions, and in extreme cases, psychotic episodes. This is why those with bipolar disorder need to stay on their meds.
