Medullary carcinoma: Surgery is the first line of therapy. If your local ENT doesn't want to perform surgery seek a second opinion from a large medical center such as a medical school.

Medullary thyroid: Cancer (mtc) accounts for only 3--4% of all thyroid cancers and is hereditary in 25% of reported cases. Patients with mtc should undergo genetic testing for ret mutations; if positive, their family members should be tested also. Management options for tumors that cannot be removed surgically include external beam radiation treatment and oral chemotherapy drugs (vandetanib or cabozantanib).
