Possibly: You may be having a general anesthetic or it may be under a local with sedation administered. Either way, to prevent the possibility af aspirating stomach contents, nothing to eat or drink after midnight is the usual procedure.

Not necessarily: This is routine in case genera l anesthesia or deep sedation becomes necessary, but not mean it is probable.
