Is addisons disease a genetic hereditary problem?

See below: 80% of addison's disease cases are cause by autoimmune disorders-immune system makes antibodies that attack the body's own tissue or organ, slowly destroying them. In a polyendocrine deficiency syndrome adrenal glands and other endocrine glands may be affected-type 1 is inherited & occurs in children. Tb accounts for less than 20% of the other addison's cases.

No, it is aquired.: This happens when over 90% of the adrenal gland is destroyed by surgery or infection (tuberculosis, histoplasmosis, etc.), or by auto-immune mechanisms. Other causes can be bilateral tumor metastasis, amyloidosis, and sarcoidosis.

Addisions is genetic: In 2012 the answer is usually yes. Tuberculosis caused dr. Addison to describe the condition. Now it is any failure of the adrenal glands. Today it does run in families where autoimmune diseases occur. (thyroid, diabetes, adrenal, celiac, etc).
