Zymotic is obsolete: Addison's disease is a rare (1/100, 000) problem called primary adrenal insufficiency. The adrenal glands do not produce enough hormones. It may be due to a variety of causes. Not usually: Ad can be hereditary in the unusual setting of a polyendocrinopathy, though unusual. Usually ad is a chronic process but you wouldn't know it until you get sick. Taking Hydrocortisone as prescribed is critical. Illnesses and injuries may lead to crisis, but managing it is part of routine endocrine patient education. Close endocrine care is a must. Other autoimmune diseases could happen.
