Insomnia : Insomnia can occur sometimes for no obvious reason. Things to try: limit how much caffeine you have during the day. Caffeine is in soda products, energy drinks, coffee, tea and chocolate. Try not to nap during the day. Be sure you aren't taking any herbs/supplements that have stimulants in them. Try to eat a slightly large meal 2-3 hours before you go to bed then don't eat afterwards. Keep a fan on in your room for white noise. Try not to use your computer within one hour of bedtime, and keep your room dark and cool. If your insomnia continues, see your doctor for possible medical treatments, but usually insomnia will resolve with these ideas.

You both need help: If your friend is not eating or sleeping at all after one day get some outside help. No matter how much you care for your friend you can't help her on your own. Not eating and not sleeping can make a rough time much rougher. Best wishes to both of you.

Please seek medical: Evaluation. If you energy level is high would be concerned about conditions like mania or hypomania. Use good sleep hygiene. Retire ; rise same time each day. Keep bedroom dark ; cool ; use only for sex ; sleep. Turn off tv. No naps. Exercise regularly but not in late evening. No caffeine for 6 hrs ; no alcohol or tobacco w/i 2 hrs of sleep. Keep dinner moderate sized ; finish at least 2 to 3 hrs.
