A member asked:

Is there anyway to help someone (daughter) with sociopathic tendencies? my understanding is its a personality defect and can't be helped or medicated.

Please try!: I'm sure you don't want her to grow up to be a sociopath so do something now to try to make a difference - take her to a good therapist--look at how you and your family may possibly be contributing to her being this way--family therapy might be helpful--make clear family rules--set clear limits with clear consequences --be consistent in how you follow through--keep working with those helping you.

Not likely: The hallmark of antisocial personality disorder is for the person to have basically no conscience. No sense of right and wrong or social morals. This type of personality disorder is especially resistant to treatment.
