You : You are right about the lowest dosage. We wait 6-8 weeks before rechecking the blood test to determine if that dosage is right. There are lower doses between 88 and 125: 100 and 112. Most endocrinologists prefer brand name levothyroxine and consider it more reliable: tirosint, Levoxyl and synthroid are the most common brands.

No, : No, its not the lowest. Levothyroxine tablet strength starts from 25mcg all the way up to 300mcg, and depending on your daughter's body size (and compliance if being a teenager !), its not uncommon to have change in dose requirement over time. The goal of any thyroid replacement plan is to achieve normal thyroid levels regardless of the dose that is required to acheive such goal. If your daughter is still in her pre or pubertal stage, the need to have normal thyroid levels is even greater given the important role thyroid hormone plays in linear growth and calcium accrual in the bone. Hope this helps. Cayce t. Jehaimi, M.D., faap pediatric endocrinology & diabetes the children's hospital of southwest florida fort myers, fl, usa.
