Have tooth treated: Antibiotics are prescribed in order to help shrink the abscess. It may take 24-48 hours to take effect. If an abscess is present it needs to be drained, either through the gum or by opening up the tooth. The tooth would then need a root canal. The dentist should have made a follow up appt with you. Medications are not magic they take some time to work.

tooth pain: Seek out an endodontist for an evaluation. If it is an infected tooth it will need endodontic treatment or extraction. Seek professional evaluation.

Be re-evaluated: If you feel you are not improving and getting worse you should be seen again. Your antibiotic may need to be changed or you may need it drained.
