My husband has an abscessed tooth, would doxycycline help? he has only ever be prescribed amoxicillian.

Maybe: Tetracycline type antibiotics are not the best choice for a dental abscess. He is better off with a penicillin type(amoxicillin), Erythromycin or clindamycin.

Visit a dentist: If the abscess is periodontal in origin (gums) then doxy is appropriate. If it is endodontic in origin doxy would not be my first choice. I would recommend him see a dentist for an evaluation.

Doxycycline: Doxcycline is not the best antibiotic for an abcessed tooth- either amoxicillen or penicillen would be mor effective.
