In an emergency: In an emergency room with an agitated and anxious patient, 2mg of Lorazepam might be given for symptom relief. In such a situation, melatonin and exercise would not be appropriate. Discharge instructions would include follow-up with a psychiatrist and/or psychologist, so that evaluation and treatment of the insomnia and "situational stress" could proceed. Melatonin might be helpful then.

Not best option: I agree with you that Lorazepam 2 mg for sleep is very aggressive. It may indeed work well, but the risk of dependency is high. Call your doctor and express your concern. Ask if melatonin is fine. Best wishes. Melatonin should be dosed 3 mg prior to desired sleep time.
