Is there anything that can be done about "flat feet" other than orthodics?

Surgery..but tough: It really depends on the type of flatfoot you have, how severe, whether born with it or acquired etc...If it is not bothering you such as having much pain/walking problem, then you may not need treatment at all. Simple orthotics may suffice for mild cases. If it is severe and affecting your life, consult doc/ortho/foot-ankle surgeon for eval n specific treatment options for you!... Good luck.

Surgery: In severe cases, especially those that do not respond to conservative treatments, surgical fusion of the rearfoot joints can provide significant relief of pain.

Flatfoot options: Symptomatic, painful flatfeet can be treated conservatively with orthotic devices, hi top shoes, and bracing (afo's) . If these options fail in relief, surgical intervention can be employed. These options depend on whether arthritis exists in the joint and degree of deformity.

Yes: If conservative measures have been tried and failed, there are surgical options. There are many and require a full and thorough examination to determine what it right for the patient.
