Weight, genetics: Do you have a family history of diabetes? If so, you are at higher risk. Candy is only a factor if you overdo it and gain weight. Sugar does not cause diabetes, obesity (and genetics) causes diabetes. As part of a healthy diet, you should not let candy get out of hand, but a little indulgence now and then is not a factor. It is possible to get diabetes, but you can help control your destiny.

It is ...: There are many factors which contribute to someone developing diabetes. Much is genetic as in inherited from your mother and father. Some is weight related. Your diet can contribute too. Though eating candy alone is unlikely to cause you to become a diabetic, if it causes you to gain a lot of weight it's possible that it might lead to diabetes.
