Candy: Yes it is possible to get diabetes from eating too much candy but that does occur in all those who eat to much candy. That said, too much candy is too much for you. There are many nutritious foods that are much less likely to result in diabetes. If there is a family history of diabetes you should be even more careful with candy.

Sugar and diabetes: Hi. First of all, I trust your hypothyroidism is treated and your thyroid function is normal on therapy. Second, excess sugar doesn't directly cause type 2 diabetes. However, it can cause weight gain (much is converted to fat for storage), and certainly can tax your pancreas to make enough insulin if you're overweight and have insulin resistance. Willpower lets you avoid eating too much.
