Neither: Both types of foods contain high glycemic index sugars, the sweet potatoes being somewhat worse. A balanced, lower fat diet and exercise will suffice for weight loss of 10 lbs. Or so. A larger weight loss might require a specific diet. Of those available you should look at the dukan diet. It is a low-fat, high protein, low glycemic index-food diet and is safe for most people.
