Wait: These things usually heal but the discoloration may take some time to go away. I have seen these kinds of things last a year. If you are concerned see your doctor.

Scar: It sounds like the area has healed but with a thickened scar. This is called a hypertrophic scar. These usually do not improve on their own and well require an intralesional steroid shot to flatten it down. Go see your dermatologist who is prepared to do this.
