many uses: Amitriptyline, also called Elavil (amitriptyline) is in the class of tricyclic antidepressants. It is indicated for the treatment of depression. However it is often prescribed off label to treat other conditions including; post herpetic neuralgia, migaines, eating disorders and in some cases pain and insomnia.

Agree w Dr. Irwin.: Amitriptyline (endep/ elavil) is a tricyclic antidepressant. Off-label uses of Amitriptyline include: chronic pain, bedwetting, adhd, smoking cessation, anxiety disorders, fibromyalgia, eating disorders ; for prevention of migraine headaches. If you have been prescribed Amitriptyline - you should d/w your prescribing provider.
