A member asked:

Is rabies transmitted when a rabid dog sneezes or cough near us?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rabies: The rabies virus is only spread when the saliva of the infected animal comes in contact with the blood stream (generally from a bite). There are generally less than 100 cases of rabies in dogs each year in the us and transmission to humans from dogs in the us is exceedingly rare. Transmission from bats or other wildlife is much more common.
