Yes: Orajel is the same as topical anesthetic which is often used as an numbing agent prior to injections of local anesthetic. It penetrates only the outer most layer of the gum tissue. Used sparingly, it should not travel systemically in which case it should be safe to use. Pregnant patients with necessary dental work receive not only topical anesthetic but local anesthetic as well.

Yes, but...: Why is "dental pain" being "treated" with orajel? Most dental pain comes from infection or inflammation. Guess what isn't safe for the baby?!? Strongly recommend seeing the dentist to find the cause. Common sense finally wins! check this link: http://health.Usnews.Com/health-news/news/articles/2013/08/07/dental-care-safe-for-pregnant-women-experts.

Yes, but: Yes, but 1) there is a reason for the pain. See dentist to diagnose and treat problem. Not good to have dental/oral infection while pregnant. 2) Use Orajel according to directions. Some med is absorbed systemically and into system of baby. Ask OB doc before using this medication for guidance.
