Most aren't asleep!: In the United States, most C/sections are performed with the women awake using a spinal block or epidural. Its safer for the baby and allows the mother to be awake for the birth. Less commonly, a c/section will be done under general anesthesia. Most women START to gain consciousness within minutes but FULL consciousness takes 45-60 minutes afterwards. Best wishes!
