24 hours: It can take 24 to 48 hours for antibiotics to take effect. Please contact the dentist who prescribed the Amoxicillin with you're concerns. Make sure you follow up with treatment, the antibiotic alone will not cure the abscessed tooth.

While an effective antibiotic takes 24 to 48 hours to 'work', how quickly swelling, pain, and the infection become under control varies greatly. Your own dentist needs to closely monitor and treat these situations.
