Can an ultrasound tell if spot in kidney is a tumor?

solid or cystic: Ultrasound can tell if a lesion in the kidney is solid or cystic. A simple, uncomplicated cyst is usually nothing to worry about, and therefore no further workup would be needed. However, an ultrasound cannot tell if a solid mass is benign or malignant, so if the lesion is solid, further evaluation would be necessary.

It could: It could. Ultrasound can detect some kidney tumors; however, the most common method to evaluate kidney tumors is ct scan. Often a ct scan will demonstrate a characteristic appearance that indicates a kidney abnormality is a tumor rather than a cyst or other abnormality.
