solid or cystic: Ultrasound can tell if a lesion in the kidney is solid or cystic. A simple, uncomplicated cyst is usually nothing to worry about, and therefore no further workup would be needed. However, an ultrasound cannot tell if a solid mass is benign or malignant, so if the lesion is solid, further evaluation would be necessary.
