Are crutches needed for a broken toe?

Usually not: However, there may be circumstances where it's a good idea. Such as an intraarticular or comminuted fracture.

Normally Not: Normally splinting the toe and wearing stiff sole shoes is adequate for treating broken toes as long as position is correct.

Not typically: The majority of patients with toe fractures and toe injuries do not need crutch assistance. Usually toe splinting, flat-bottomed surgical shoes and decreasing activities are the standard treatment choices. Some injuries however, may need surgical intervention with non-weight bearing status and thus, crutches are likely essential. Hope this helps!

Toe fractures: Toe fractures usually do not need crutches if the fracture is non displaced. However, if the fracture is displaced and an implant is used to fix the fracture, there may be need to be off weight bearing using a roller device or crutches. Discuss with your Podiatrist who will explain to you if you need crutches.
