10 weeks.: There are a lot of sensory nerves in the hands and feet, so these areas tend to stay painful and sore longer than other body parts. Pain after this kind of foot surgery can take 10 weeks to resolve, with 10% improvement per week. At one month (4-5 weeks) you should be 40%-50% better, at two months you should be 80%-90% better. At 3 months you should be 99% better.

Talk to your Surgeon: While generally there is little down time for this - usually 10-14 days until sutures are removed and typically patients can walk on the foot after surgery - i urge you to communicate with your operating physician. If you have questions that you feel haven't been answered, it is better to sit down with him/her and discuss them preoperatively so you don't have any surprises.

A surgical shoe: Should be sufficient. Sutures will be in for about 2 weeks. You may be back in a shoe in 2-3 weeks time. (possibly less).

Recovery time varies: Recover time will vary depending on many factors including age, general health of the patient, infection control, smoker or not, blood sugar control, the exact type of procedure, and post-operative and follow up care. Discuss it with your surgeon and get their opinion as to what they feel is a reasonable recovery time for you.
