That depends: It could simply be food stuck behind the tooth. It could be the gum tissue getting squished between the top tooth and the bottom tooth. It could be the beginning of an infection. An evaluation by your dentist is the best way to figure out which of these is causing your problem. In the mean time warm salt water rinses may help flush out anything that is caught back there and make it feel better.
