Your waist size?: You are correct, apple shaped people with more abdominal 'visceral' fat have the highest risk for diabetes. Compared to a 34 waist, for men, being a 36 waist doubles the diabetes risk, 38 triples the risk, 40 has a 5x risk, > 40 has a 12 times higher risk. Diet, exercise, and weight loss will seriously reduce or delay your chance of developing diabetes.

Perhaps: Tummy fat , what we call central adiposity is a major area of concern in terms of health. Losing it will help reduce the chance.
