Usually good outcome: Most patients with thyroid cancers do very well. The most common types are usually cured by surgery followed by thyroid hormone treatment. Some need radioactive iodine if the cancer is more advanced. The prognosis may not be as good for some of the more rare types of thyroid tumors, however.

Most thyroid: Cancers respond well to surgery and other modalities with an excellent chance of long term survival. Others, unfortunately, have a much worse prognosis. It depends upon what they find at surgery. Check the american thyroid assoc. Website for more info.
