A member asked:

Women and low thyroid. how common is it for a woman to need synthroid (thyroxine)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thyroid hormone: If anyone has "low thyroid" they need to be on thyroid hormone replacement -- period. The thyroid is the director of all the other organs in the body and without thyroid hormone the other organs do not function correctly. That includes everything from the skin to the heart. It regulates body temperature, body weight, heart functions and so much more.
