I am seeing a gi dr but just would like more feedback on how long it is safe to stay on 40mg of prednisone for severe ulcerative colitis?

Quicker the better: Treatment of uc with Prednisone is challenging. Prednisone 40 is a solid dose. There is no definite "safe amount of time." prednisone's side effects affect the body slowly, so i would say one month would be completely ok and then the longer you stay on such a dose, the more side effects (bloating, irritability, fluid retention, etc) you will have. Work with GI to limit use of predniosone. G.Luck.
