A member asked:

How long does gastritis take to heal? had it for 7 weeks now, been taking probiotics, zantac, (ranitidine) buscopan and eating fresh food and its getting worse

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Time for a change...: Zantac (ranitidine) in doses less than 100mg (otc dosing is 75mg) effectively inhibits basal & nighttime acid output by the stomach. However, food-stimulated acid production & tobacco/ nsaid/ alcohol injury may need bigger "guns." prescription-strength doses of zantac (ranitidine) are 150-300mg twice daily. Stop tobacco, nsaids, & drinking alcohol, & ask your doctor if time to switch medication or to get further testing.
