Return-to-play: Mcl sprains are routinely successfully treated conservatively with hinged bracing. Some meniscal tears can be treated conservatively as well depending upon the tear location/blood supply. Regardless, return-to-play criteria are met when your pain resolves, and motion+strength are restored (graduated process). May consider bracing initially upon returning as well if any laxity persists.

Physical exam: If u have an isolated mcl sprain( mild- modeate)generally u should be able to return to cutting sports @ 4- 6 wks. Meniscus ' sprains' are quite rare. The meniscal cartilage is either torn or not.If it is see an ors for evaluation for arthroscopic repair vs. Resection. Isolated mcl sprains = non op; meniscus tears( documented by exam/mri= surgery( scope).

A few weeks: Usually takes a few weeks to recover from mcl sprain. Could be 8+ weeks till full recovery but in most cases a simple sprain takes 2-4 weeks.

See on ortho: Healing from a 2nd degree mcl (incomplete tear) will take 6-12 wks, but usually can play with brace at about 6 wks depending upon healing/symptoms. Meniscus sprain: contusion? If so, should be fine by the time mcl heals.
