Well...: Looked up essiac tea ; it was described as a naturopathic product that has been used for cancer. I don't know what it contains as i believe it is a proprietary blend of herbs. I didn't see research on it. I will forward your question to dr. Baker - he may know more about. I can't recommend that you do or don't take it at this point. But there are herbs that are known to help sore throats. Consider.

making tea with 2 tsp of Marshmallow root bark per 1cup of hot water (steep in a covered pot for at least 5 minutes). Drink several times a day or as needed to relieve throat pain. Try adding 2 tsp of slippery elm bark to 1 cup of hot water (steep for at least 5 minutes in a covered teapot). Drink this as needed to relieve pain or a few times per day. Or try Slippery Elm Bark lozenges.

Safe to try but...: Essiac tea is based on a native american herbal blend popularized by rene caisse, a canadian nurse, as a natural treatment for cancer. Whether it helps cancer is controversial, but these are safe herbs that help to stimulate immune function ; may help infections (though this is also unproven)- see http://essiacinfo.Org/essiac.Html you can try it, but there are remedies better proven-see comment:.

Most sore throats are viral but if your only symptom is fever & sore throat (no other cold symptoms) you might have strep that is best treated with antibiotics. For a viral sore throat I advise Pelargonium sidoides, a South African herb widely sold as Umcka- see http://bit.ly/1f6rJci Propolis often helps and homeopathy can also help.
