im abroad seeing family, i have a sore throat no other symptoms. if i have strep throat what can i tell them i can/cant take? i am allergic to augmentin, sulfa, doxy, bactrim, and maybe penicillin. i think ive taken zpack before but not sure?

: If you are allergic to augmentin you are likely allergic to penicillin. Yes, you can take azithromycin or erythromycin. Cephalosporin  such as cephalexin (keflex) can be used too (chance of PCN cross allergy is less than 10%).

i was prescribed z-pak for strep throat as i am allergic to penicillin. i finished my medication today. i also take 40 mg of escitalopram for anxiety. i took escitalopram 4-6 hours after i took my antibiotic. should i be concerned? i ended treatment?

Be patient: Penicillin works only against bacterial infections such as strep throat and it might take a few more days. The drug will not help sore throats caused by allergies or viral infections. Sinus rinse and mouth wash are very helpful otc remedies.

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim): Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) like so many drugs has side effect. It is sun sensitive, so you shold apply a sun block when going outside. It can also cause hive as well well as condition known as steven-johnson syndrome.

PCN: The person is usually not contagious after completing the first 24 hours of antibiotics and they generally feel significant improvement after 24 to 48 hours. You still need to take the full course of antibiotics. Don't stop just because you are feeling better.
