i was on ambien (zolpidem) for five years prior and it stopped working. so i should have no problems trying it again after 14 month hiatus?

Probably  not.: I  assume that  you were  taking  generic  Ambien; i.e., zolpidem.  Thee  are  occasional  generic  products  that  are poorly  made and  do  not  provide the  benefit.  There are  also  various  medical and  psychiatric  conditions   that  interfere with  effectiveness of  Ambien both  then and now.  Your MD  can help answer  these questions--better to do so  now than  have  medication  failure.

my father has end stage liver failure i was wondering if there anything that can be done for sleep for him other then ambien (zolpidem) er ?

Reflect on total life journey of your father and his fulfillment in work, relationships and personal life
Reflect on his contribution to your life; show your appreciation to him.
Express your concerns including sleep problem of your father to Psychiatrist and discuss Therapy and Medication.

i want to reduce the amount of ambien (zolpidem) i take. i have 12.5 ambiencr and want to know if i cut 1  in half would that essentially make it a 6.25ir?

Do not cut: The CR pill is coated in a way that controls the time/speed the medication is released. Cutting it does not make it in to an IR formulation, it just makes the way the medicine will enter your system very unpredictable-not a good idea for a med with potential for serious side effects.  Your doctor likely will appreciate your efforts to reduce your dose-call and ask for a new prescription.

i've taken ambien (zolpidem) 12.5 cr for year. i'm cutting it down now to 6.25 cr. some nights i get no sleep at all with this change. can i take melatonin too?

Yes: It is fine to take some melatonin to try and help you taper off the ambien (zolpidem). Getting off the ambien (zolpidem) is a great idea. It can disrupt normal sleep cycles for a long time.

I'd Say Yes: A silly little secret is that a lot of medications far outlive their expiration dates (and probably many's lives). Not all, but many and I'd bet Ambien (zolpidem) is one of them. For sure, it won't be toxic to you. Generally if you keep a medication in a cool protected area out of light (like a refrigerator) it will be good for a long time.

Possibly: Tolerance may or may not develop.  Some depends on what you are taking it for, what other medicines you are taking, and how well it is working.

Accepted Answer

No "best" way.: A common way would be to take 5 mg for about a week and then stop.  That would certainly avoid withdrawal  effects. But you may find that you have trouble sleeping, in a way that zolpidem helped with.  Then you may chose between resuming zolpidem or trying alternative insomnia treatments.

1st question can you take lexapro after taking nexium40mg in the morning. 2nd question can you take ambien (zolpidem) at night for bed time 5 mg ?

No: Nexium (esomeprazole) taken with Lexapro can cause significant side effects by intensifying the effects of the Lexapro to bring about confusion, hallucination, heart issues etc.   Ambien may also be an issue with Lexapro even though the fda has not reported anything, internet reviews from consumers have spoke of side effects. Please consult your physician before you mix these medicines. Take care.

i take 10mg ambien (zolpidem) and 3.5 sublingual ambien (zolpidem). if i can't find my normal ambien (zolpidem), would it be completely wrong to take the sub in proportion to reg amb?

Yes, wrong: Intermezzo (sublingual ambien) is formulated for people who fall asleep normally, but wake up in the middle of the night & can't get back to sleep.  It should also be taken only if you have at least 4 hours of sleep time left before getting up.  You should only take 1 tablet a night, & not take extra to make up for the 10 mg immediate release tablets that you "can't find.".

Other medications: Using Ambien (zolpidem) non-stop for that long would be expected to not work after awhile, because tolerance has likely developed.  Ask your doctor about other possible medications that might pertain to your own case.  I'm not sure if your sleep disturbance has been fully evaluated, as to why you need a medication like that for such an extended period?  A sleep medicine doc and/ or psychiatrist could help.
