sonogram shows 2.2cm, (2) 1cm in neck lymph's. ct contrast scan doesn't identify lymph's. i'm told its inflammation. ct does not pick up inflammation?

Accepted Answer

CT can: identify soft tissue inflammation, and can identify lymph nodes.  Hard to speculate as to why the CT scan didn't show the lymph nodes, but I suspect if they looked normal the radiologist decided not to mention them.  The only way to be certain is to have the radiologist look at the CT and ultrasound side by side and reconcile the discrepancy.

what are different types of hernia in abdomen? would a ct with oral contrast of abdomen/pelvic show a hernia? any kind.

Physical Exam Best: The most common hernias of the abdominal wall include the groin/inguinal region, the umbilicus, and the upper-middle abdomen.  Hernias may also develop anywhere one has had an incision from prior surgery.  The best way to demonstrate a hernia is by physical examination.  If unclear, a ct may be helpful but it can miss hernias and, in the groin especially, may not differentiate a hernia from fat.

can a ct of the abd/pelvis with iv contrast only no oral show a bowel blockage?

Possibly: CT of the abdomen with IV contrast may show a bowel obstruction. If it does show up, that is good. If it does not show an obstruction and one is suspected oral contrast maybe needed.

i know a ct angiogram of abd w/ contrast shows vessels. if the concern is the organs, is a regular ct abd/pelvis w/ contrast better or is angiogram ok?

Either: If the scan is done with IV and oral contrast it should give best results.

It can: A noncontrast ct of the abdomen can show if the pancreas is inflamed with enlargement and strandy fluid around the pancreas. Pancreatic cysts and duct enlargement are often identified too. Cancers of the pancreas that don't enlarge the pancreas significantly will often not be seen.

i've severe lower left back pain stool with undigested food had ct abdo pelvis with iv contrast shows normal bowels can it miss smthing serious plz?

Accepted Answer

No test is: 100% accurate.  Particularly if you have a functional disorder of transit time or a malabsorption disorder, CT may look normal.

would a ct of the abdomen and pelvis w/o &w/contrast (ct urography) show the ovaries & rectum? it states axial imaging of the abdomen & pelvis was performed from lung bases to the symphysis pubis. pelvis structure & gi unremarkable?

: With abdominal CT studies, ovaries and descending colon are shown, but to be certain about ovarian possible abnormalities, an ultrasound of the lower abdomen (transvaginal U/S)  with contrast may be more accurate.

Get it checked: Yes it could be and you should get it checked.

Accepted Answer

CT of the liver: Can show tumors, cirrhosis, bile duct problems, and overall size. Hepatitis (liver inflammation) can sometimes be suggested by the presence of fluid (edema) around the portal vessels but blood liver function tests are the standard by which liver inflammation is diagnosed.
