CT can: identify soft tissue inflammation, and can identify lymph nodes. Hard to speculate as to why the CT scan didn't show the lymph nodes, but I suspect if they looked normal the radiologist decided not to mention them. The only way to be certain is to have the radiologist look at the CT and ultrasound side by side and reconcile the discrepancy.
