Most hypertensives.: Most pregnant women with chronic hypertension are on Labetalol (a combined Alpha and beta blocker) that is fairly effective and safe for that purpose. Chronic use of beta blockers can decrease fetal growth, though, so only take this medication under the care of a maternal-fetal medicine specialist. Alternative regimens: alpha-methyldopa (very safe, modestly effective), Nifedipine (safe, effective).

BETABLOCKERS: Not used in pregnancy due to danger of fetal bradycardia, hypoglycemia and hinders growth of baby.

Class C: Class c means no studies have been performed and safety is uncertain. Class b is better. All calcium blockers and all beta blockers except Acebutolol are class c. Acebutolol (a beta blocker) is class b. Class b means that animal studies have shown safety but no human studies have been done. None of the drugs are class a (safest) and risk should always be balanced against need.

have avg of 20k pvcs a day all tests are normal (echo, etc). beta blockers don't work. ep wants to try diltiazem. how will this drug help with pvcs?

It's a CCB: Many channels for rhythm in heart. 
Beta blockers didn't work.
Next he is trying calcium channel blocker (diltiazem).
If this doesn't work there are many other drugs. But with increasing frequency of side effects. 
BB's and CCB's have safer side effect profile.

Not unless...: ... The lab has some reason to look for these in addition to drugs of abuse. If you've been taking a beta-blocker for "nerves" or to help you with public speaking, perhaps a physician can prescribe it for you if it helps, or you can learn some other tricks to be more at ease.

cardiologist said i might have a hole in my heart further tests are needed. should i keep taking beta blockers for my fast heart rate in the meantime?

YES.: If your cardiologist knows you're taking a beta blocker for your fast heart rate, continue it as directed.   A rapid heart rate could cause further complications from the suspected hole in your heart.   If for some reason your beta blocker needs to be discontinued, it should be gradually tapered under the guidance of your cardiologist.

i was strugglin with heart palpitation and i did test everything is fine been taking sertraline and beta blockers ocassionally, and then i stopped and now i get heart palpitations whenever i do some light acitvity what could it be?

Palpitations: Sounds like your heart is structurally sound. At 22 that would be expected. People that have taken a Beta blocker and then stop it often get palpitations. If it has been a couple of days off the medicataion many times your body will adjust and the symptoms resolve. Other causes for palpitations are stimulants, coffee, tea, soda, low magnesium and thyroid problems.

i've had chest pain and heart palps pretty much for a mnty. ekg.  ultra sound -stress test and blood all neg.  dr suggests beta blockers. appropriate?

Possibly.: A beta blocker might be appropriate if ones heart rate is rapid or if one has premature beats or runs of tachycardia.  However, more important is to ask what the underlying problem is causing chest pain and palpitations.  A careful  evaluation includes blood tests, especially the TSH thyroid test, blood counts for anemia and infection, and a thorough history and physical exam.

dull pain right arm 3 weeks dr said ecg fine. bp 160 over 90. had ck test. on beta blockers & aspirin. is this heart or alcohol problem. smoke 40 day?

Need more testing: Just because your EKG was normal does not necessarily mean you have no cardiac issues.  If you smoke heavily and have persistent extremity pain of unknown significance, it would probably be in your best interest to have a stress test performed.  This can potentially aid in determining if your pain is of cardiac origin.  I don't see how alcohol could play a role in this.
