Possibly.: A beta blocker might be appropriate if ones heart rate is rapid or if one has premature beats or runs of tachycardia. However, more important is to ask what the underlying problem is causing chest pain and palpitations. A careful evaluation includes blood tests, especially the TSH thyroid test, blood counts for anemia and infection, and a thorough history and physical exam.
