my ankle is swollen, red, and warm to the touch. also my ankle and the bottom right side of my foot hurt when i try to walk. i had surgery on it multiple times last year but fine since then. should i go to er or wait the week or 2 to see doctor?

: Red swelling in the ankles sounds like it could be an infection, gout, arthritis, a result of a clot. It hard to say what you should do without more information. If you want you can try telemedicine first understanding that the doctor may not be able to treat you but direct you where you need to go.

Big toe pain: There two small bones located below the big toe joint area called sesamoids, something they can get inflamed .  See a podiatrist.

I only know : Of one way to flex a toe and that would be downward. I am not sure what you mean by a certain way...
Having said that the flexor tendon can be putting pressure on a nerve or something and you may be getting referred pain....

Pain: Plantar fascia or heel bruise common. A trial of a heel cup or arch support would be a good first step. If persistent visit with podiatrist best idea.

hi, i am having pain with my left foot on the joint of my 2nd toe where my toe meets my foot. by the end of the day i can hardly walk. i wear orthotics, but had been wearing hiking sandals for a while because it is so hot out. my pain is causing me to limp and then its a ripple effect to making my back hurt etc.

Urgent Care: I would suggest a Podiatry and Urgent Care appointment. From your description, a fracture is possible. 
Avoid stress on the area, local ice and elevate the foot. Motrin may be used for pain. The Podiatrist will assess your footwear.

Nerve pain: Shooting pain without bearing weight sounds like nerve involvement.  Possibly nerve entrapment.

Stepped: Usually not. But, if it was hard enough, you may have an injury needing attention by a podiatrist or your pcp. It may be just a contusion (blunt injury) with residual pain. If it continues the same for another week and you can't walk on it, get some help. Try ice and rest. You might want to try some Aleve (naproxen) or Motrin also to decrease the soreness due to the injury.

Unclear whatis : Meant by "outside lining" but i would rule out peroneal tendonopathy, stress fracture of the 5th metatarsal. Sometimes in cases like this when there is no definitive diagnosis and an MRI is ordered the results reveal "bone marrow edema" which is not a fracture but often the step before a fracture.

Foot pain: Many things can cause foot pain.  You might be suffering from a type of arthritis which could explain the pain during motion.  I would suggest evaluation by a foot and ankle specialist.

Arthritis?: This may be a type of arthritis. You can discuss this with your physician and you may have to see a rheumatologist.
