For what reasons might the outside lining of my foot hurt?

Unclear whatis : Meant by "outside lining" but i would rule out peroneal tendonopathy, stress fracture of the 5th metatarsal. Sometimes in cases like this when there is no definitive diagnosis and an MRI is ordered the results reveal "bone marrow edema" which is not a fracture but often the step before a fracture.
