No: It means he likes sweats.If your child eats and drinks continuously but is loosing weight, i would have them checked for diabeted.Craving sweats is something we teach kids to do by using it as a reward or too frequently.

Accepted Answer

No: Your cravings for sweets and their consumption do not cause diabetes in your infant.  However, a test for gestational diabetes should be offered to all women beginning in the third trimester of pregnancy.

: Kids at 3 are not at an age where reasoning works. Don't try to reason with her. If you only offer healthy food &amp; several tasty options, you have done your  job. If she skips a few meals she may be willing to try things others seem to enjoy. Bribery is fine for trying new. As long as you give only milk &amp; sweets for every meal she will demand you continue.

No: Eating sweets, even excessive amount, does not cause type 2 diabetes mellitus.  Obesity does.

Weight gain: Consumption of large amount of sweets will lead to weight gain and obesity. Obesity in children can lead to teasing by their peers. Self esteem issues and anxiety are common. If the excessive weight gain continues diabetes and other more severe health problems can occur in the teens or adulthood.

Likely sampling issu: A random blood glucose will always be affected by sampling technique, which can be hard in infants. Any foreign material on the skin surface may skew the results & falsely elevate them. If taken soon after a feed i could see it going up to the 130's. If concerned see your dr & have a venous sample tested.

Why was the test: Done? All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. In adults, a post-prandial glucose level of 141 is normal.

Vomiting  in child: How old  ? Holding any liquid down/ eating ice pops? fever ? pain? gastroenteritis? appy? injury?  if can not hold any liquid , &gt; 5 episodes, dizzy, weak go to ER  will need  IV fluids/ medicine. Dehydration can cause vomiting. Needs to drink ~3-5   oz(90-150 ml)  /hour depending on fluid loss. A teaspoon  is  5 ml.

If 11-20 kg needs 1000 ml + 50 ml for every kg &gt; 10/ day  normally.   f/u/ w/M

I'm : I'm glad you're limiting candy.  There's really none that's good for her, although there are plenty without gluten. Does she like fruit?  Delicious, in season local fruit is a great way to satisfy a sweet tooth.  But in addition to sugar, there is fiber and there are all kinds of nutrients and vitamins in fruit that most all candies lack.  That being said, if you're dealing with a holiday or birthday or some other occasion when fruit just won't be acceptable, try lolly pops, candy corn, jelly beans, or licorice.

i am 38 weeks pregnant and have had a sweet tooth recently. will excess treats/sugar effect my child at this point? or is he mostly fully grown and it wont have as much of an effect? i am still mostly good but have indulged in sweets on occasions?

: The fetus makes its own insulin, the agent that carries sugar into the tissues. All excess sugars you consume that raise your bodies blood sugar will raise that of the fetus and result in deposit of any excess in the baby within their tissues. When the cord is clamped and your sugar supplies stop, baby must transition to their own stores. Excesses may trigger a transient low blood sugar in baby.
