Everyone's different: Survival rates are most appropriately applied to large groups of patients;  it's impossible to give such a number for one person, especially without knowing her own unique situation.  As a generalization, we usually talk about "remission" rather than "cure" when cancer has spread to the bone (stage 4) yet people can live for years, especially if it is sensitive to medication.

Possible : Costochondritis , which effect the junction of the rib to the chest bone (sternum) usually subside by using  Motrin in few days, rarely will continue for a while and you have  to see your doctor for the treatment.

Osteopathic Eval: May need to see a osteopathic physician that does manipulation to see if a rib is dislocated and he/she can offer treatment.  If this does not help, it could be pathology in your thoracic spine that needs to be evaluated.  Recommend seeing a pain/spine specialist.

Be ready: If you have fever, shortness of breath or weak and lightheaded, you should be evaluated today. If you feel ok other than the pain, and symptoms are not worsening, you could wait and see if it persists for a couple of days, especially if you can identify a well-defined area of tenderness in the chest wall. That would tell you it's probably a musculoskeletal problem. Low back pain may be unrelated.

Rob cage pain: Sometimes this is just from sleeping on it wrong or due to some kind of lifting/pulling activity that caused muscle spasms or strain. If it radiates from the spine around, it could haw a spinal cause due to nerve irritation, although that's pretty rare. If you just had a bad cough, it's from the muscle and ribs being irritated from that. Have it checked if it doesn't improve in 2 weeks. Good luck!
